About Us

We are a friendly bunch!

Our focus is on providing a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for aviation enthusiasts to come together and socialise with like minded members and aviators who are active in the local aviation community.

We also encourage and support individuals who wish to pursue an interest or perhaps even a career, in aviation.

Rotorua Aero Club is based at the Rotorua Airport which is an ideal location for our flying members and visitors, but we are also only minutes away from some of the most breathtaking volcanic and geothermal scenery in New Zealand.

Rotorua has many attractive features as a place to learn to fly:

  • Rotorua is a controlled airspace which helps with learning the procedures and radio work involved with other air traffic
  • Rotorua is also only a few minutes flying time to less congested and uncontrolled airspace to the East
  • Rotorua has some magnificent terrain for learning, learn how to fly amongst some of the most beautiful scenery the country has to offer!!

Come and meet like-minded people!

We currently meet at Rotorua Airport every Sunday.

Every Sunday (weather permitting) the club opens its doors to anyone and everyone who would like to come along and join in the activities of the day. We are based at the Southern Hangar, beside River Rats Rafting company.

If your new to flying and want to find out what its all about a trial flight is a great opportunity to take control of the plane and see if it’s something you’d like to pursue, you can even take a passenger.

Or come and chat to our instructor Katie Wheeler if you would like to know any more information.

Send the club a message to find out more, or email. flyingrotorua@gmail.com

Depending on the numbers, a BBQ might be fired up for lunch, however, feel free to bring a plate to share (if you wish). Regardless, bring some friends and enjoy our hospitality. Come and check us out if you have an interest in aviation with no obligations, but new members are always welcome!

As always, we meet at the southern end next to the River Rats hanger, look for flags and the Aeroclub sign on the roof.
